Radstadt Tauern, Mountain range in eastern Salzburg, Austria
Tauri di Radstadt forms the westernmost section of the Niedere Tauern, stretching between the upper courses of the Enns and Mur rivers. The range includes several major peaks, among them Weißeck at 2,711 meters (8,894 feet), Hochfeind at 2,687 meters (8,815 feet), and Mosermandl at 2,680 meters (8,793 feet).
This mountain range long served as a natural barrier between the regions of Salzburg. During the 1970s, the Tauernautobahn A10 cut through with a major tunnel, permanently linking the valleys on either side of the range.
The mountain huts here serve as gathering points for hikers and climbers on their journeys through the range. They represent a long tradition of Alpine hospitality where families have welcomed travelers with meals and shelter for generations.
Access to the range is primarily through hiking trails that start from surrounding valleys. The huts provide comfortable stops for multi-day explorations, and sturdy footwear is essential for most routes here.
The range's peaks and valleys feature crystalline schist and marble formations with glacial lakes nestled in mountain cirques. These cold clear lakes were carved by ancient glaciers and now form quiet pockets of their own ecosystem high above the surrounding valleys.
