Wari Thana, Police station in southern Dhaka, Bangladesh
Wari Thana is a police station in Dhaka, Bangladesh, occupying the third and fourth floors of the Abdul Rahman Community Center on Tipu Sultan Road. The station covers a southern section of the city, from Gopibagh Market in the north down to Raisaheb Bazaar in the south.
The Wari area got its name in 1884 from a British magistrate who worked as an administrator in Dhaka. The police station opened in 2012 and took over responsibilities that had previously belonged to Sutrapur police station.
Wari is one of the older parts of Dhaka, originally settled by British officials and later by local residents who built a close-knit community. Walking through the area today, you can still see older buildings sitting next to small shops and busy street markets.
The station sits on a main road and can be reached by public transport, though Tipu Sultan Road tends to get congested during peak hours. Since this is a working police facility, visitors should come with a specific purpose and expect a straightforward, functional environment.
The station shares its building with the Abdul Rahman Community Center, occupying the upper floors while the community center operates below. This kind of shared arrangement is fairly common in the older, densely built parts of Dhaka, where space is limited and buildings serve more than one purpose.
