Pic de Troumouse, Mountain summit in Hautes-Pyrénées, France.
Pic de Troumouse is a mountain summit in the Hautes-Pyrénées at 3,085 meters elevation, where three major cirques meet: Troumouse, Barroude, and Barrosa. It sits on the border between France and Spain and is surrounded by steep rock walls and scree fields on all sides.
The first documented ascent was achieved by mountaineers Victor Paget and Charles Packe in 1864. This climb opened a route that has been used by many hikers since then.
The mountain marks the natural border between France and Spain, connecting traditions from both sides of the Pyrenees. People from both nations share the landscape for their work and outdoor pursuits.
Access to the summit begins at the Troumouse parking area at 2,100 meters and follows marked trails through the cirque to the peak. The climb is demanding and requires hiking experience and sturdy footwear for rocky terrain.
The peak forms a natural watershed divide between two major European river basins. Water falling here flows either to the Atlantic Ocean via the Garonne or to the Mediterranean via the Ebro.
