Puerto de Cotos

Puerto de Cotos is a mountain pass in the Sierra de Guadarrama that connects two valleys and sits at about 1,830 meters elevation. The location offers a train station, restaurants, equipment rental for winter sports, and access to several hiking trails within the national park.

Stone markers once guided travelers across this pass during winter months, which inspired the place name that still exists today. This route became more accessible after the railway connection was established, transforming how people reached the mountain.

The Spanish Alpine Club runs a facility here that serves as a meeting point for people interested in mountain sports and outdoor pursuits. This hub has become a social center where visitors and local enthusiasts gather before heading out into the surrounding peaks.

The location is reachable via the C-9 Cercanías train line, which offers regular connections so you don't need your own transportation. Access to hiking trails is available directly from the pass, and equipment can be rented on-site.

The area features dedicated sled runs where visitors can experience riding in different snow conditions. A long-established restaurant at the summit documents the changing patterns of human activity at this mountain location.
