Cueva de Sietepalacios

Cueva de Sietepalacios is an archaeological museum housed in a former Roman construction with underground vaults. These chambers were built as the basement level of a palace structure and now display artifacts from different historical periods.

Romans constructed this complex in the 1st century AD, building vaults to create additional living space within the city limits. Successive cultures later occupied and modified the site, leaving it in a layered state of development.

The objects on display come from many civilizations that once used this area, from Phoenicians to Romans. Visitors can observe how different peoples shaped this place over several centuries.

The chambers are compact and located underground, so good lighting is provided to help visitors see the vaults and artifacts. The space requires walking carefully through narrow passages, so plan for a slower pace of exploration.

An Egyptian vessel inscribed with hieroglyphics from the reign of Pharaoh Apophis I is preserved here, showing the far-reaching trade connections this coastal town once had. This artifact reveals an unexpected link between two distant civilizations.
