Le Pré-Saint-Gervais

Le Pré-Saint-Gervais is a small commune in the northeastern suburbs of Paris, situated next to the park that shares its name. The village has a residential character with modest buildings and quiet streets that form the heart of everyday life here.

The area remained rural for centuries until 1860, when a large portion was annexed into Paris's 19th arrondissement. The remaining territory kept its small-town character despite this major territorial change.

The composer Johann Schobert died in 1767 after gathering and eating toxic mushrooms from the fields here. This unusual incident occasionally appears in accounts of musical history from that era.
