Les Combarelles, Prehistoric art cave in Les Eyzies, France
The 300-meter-long cave contains over 600 Paleolithic engravings of animals, including horses, reindeer, bears, lions, and mammoths on its narrow sandy walls.
Local researchers Louis Capitan, Henri Breuil, and Denis Peyrony discovered the cave's archaeological value in September 1901, leading to its protection as a national monument.
The cave engravings demonstrate the advanced artistic capabilities of Cro-Magnon people who inhabited the region between 13,680 and 11,380 years ago.
Visitors must book guided tours at the Font de Gaume ticket office, with groups limited to six people due to the narrow passages and fragile nature of the art.
The cave features a naturalistic engraving of a reindeer drinking water, demonstrating the prehistoric artists' ability to capture detailed animal behaviors.
