National Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil

The National Museum of Prehistory exhibits extensive collections of prehistoric artifacts, carved flints, and educational displays about early human development in southwestern France.

Founded in 1918, the museum stands at the location where fossil remains of Cro-Magnons were discovered by geologist Louis Lartet in March 1868.

The museum collection features numerous artifacts from the Magdalenean culture, along with art mobilier pieces that represent early human artistic expression.

The facility maintains different seasonal schedules, with extended hours during summer months from July to August and reduced operations during winter, excluding Tuesdays.

Located at the intersection of Vézère and Beune rivers, the museum recorded 94,357 visitors in 2011, marking its highest attendance in recent decades.
