Glacier d'Ossoue, Glacier in Gavarnie-Gèdre, France

Located in the Vignemale massif along the French-Spanish border, Glacier d'Ossoue extends 1.4 kilometers at an elevation of 2,760 meters.

The glacier surface reached 110 hectares during the mid-19th century, making it the largest ice formation in the French Pyrenees mountain range.

The caves carved by mountaineer Henry Russell within the glacier walls serve as markers to track the evolution of ice levels over time.

Access to the glacier requires following the GR 10 trail from Ossoue Dam, with optimal snow conditions typically occurring in early summer.

Between 2001 and 2021, the glacier lost 32.4 meters in thickness and its front retreated 171 meters due to climate changes.
