Piton Carré, Mountain summit in Hautes-Pyrénées, France

Piton Carré rises to 3,197 meters as part of the Vignemale massif in the Pyrenees. The peak is characterized by rocky faces and sharp ridges that create its distinctive angular form.

The first recorded ascent took place in 1822 when V. de Chausenque crossed from Petit Vignemale along the connecting ridge. This climb marked the beginning of its pursuit by mountaineers in subsequent decades.

The peak's distinctive square-shaped summit gives it its name and anchors the local mountaineering heritage. Climbers from across Europe have long sought this route as part of their progression through the high Pyrenees.

Hikers approach the summit typically via the Glacier d'Ossoue route, and overnight shelter is available nearby for those acclimatizing to altitude. The terrain requires climbing experience and rocky scrambling in exposed sections.

The massif sits between two valleys with distinctly different landscapes, and the peak marks a natural boundary between these regions. From this vantage point, visitors can observe the sharp contrast between the adjacent terrain below.
