Pic de Cestrède is a granite summit rising to about 2,950 meters within the Ardiden massif. Its southern face displays steep cliffs dropping roughly 400 meters, creating a dramatic rock wall.
The Russell shelter at the base was built during early exploration of the Pyrenees. It represents the legacy of mountaineering pioneers who opened this region for climbing.
The name comes from the Gascon language and refers to yarrow, a medicinal plant traditionally found growing in these mountains.
The route starts from La Fruitière parking area and is best attempted on clear days when rock passages are safe and visible. The entire ascent is demanding and requires climbing experience along with solid footing on rocky terrain.
From this peak you can see directly to the Ossoue Glacier, the second largest tongue glacier in the Pyrenees. This view makes it an exceptional spot to observe this icy landscape up close during your climb.
