Puy de l'Angle, Volcanic summit in Mont Dore mountains, France

Puy de l'Angle reaches an elevation of 1740 meters and features gentle slopes leading to a summit marked by an iron cross.

The peak formed during volcanic eruptions 300000 years ago, creating deposits of latite and shoshonite in the adventive massif of Mont Dore mountains.

Puy de l'Angle hosts several regional sporting events including the Estival du Sancy trail and the Sancylienne foot race.

The ascent from Col de la Croix Saint-Robert requires a 1.7-kilometer hike with a 300-meter elevation gain on the GR 4 trail.

The summit provides views of the Dordogne river sources cirque, the Tuilière and Sanadoire rocks, and Lake Guéry below.
