Sawai Madhopur is a city in the Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan in India. The streets run in a planned grid between the railway station and older neighborhoods, while low hills and dry scrubland rise at the edges of town.
Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I founded this city in 1763 following planning principles similar to those used when building Jaipur. Development continued with the arrival of the railway in the 19th century, turning the city into a hub for regional connections.
