Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Sagareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected refuge in Maharashtra featuring dry mixed deciduous forests that shelter blackbucks, wild boars, sambhars, and numerous bird species. The landscape provides natural habitat for these animals across its forested terrain.

The sanctuary was established in 1975 through conservation efforts led by D. M. Mohite, who transformed the land into a protected forest area. This founding marked the beginning of systematic preservation work in the region.

The forest area was deliberately planted with specific tree species including tamarind, neem, and acacia to support the local wildlife and maintain ecological balance.

The sanctuary is located approximately 30 kilometers from Sangli city and can be reached via National Highway 4 with regular bus services from surrounding towns. The best time to visit is during drier months when trails are accessible and wildlife sightings are more frequent.

From the highest hill point in the area, visitors can observe the Krishna River winding through agricultural lands while spotting various native wildlife species. This vantage point connects human land use with the natural ecosystem in a memorable way.
