Bhubaneswar Metro, Proposed metro rail project in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, India
Bhubaneswar Metro is a planned rapid transit system designed to link the two cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The first phase will include approximately 20 stations and connect Trisulia to Biju Patnaik International Airport.
Planning began in 2010 with a study by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, followed by detailed assessments over several years. The project received final approval from the Chief Secretary in 2023.
The metro project represents a significant infrastructure advancement for Odisha, connecting major population centers and facilitating movement between prominent urban areas.
The project remains in the planning phase and is not yet open to the public. Interested people can check with local authorities for updates on construction progress and expected opening dates.
The system is funded entirely by the state of Odisha, representing an independent regional initiative without central government support. This makes the project a demonstration of local autonomy in developing large-scale infrastructure.
