Tağlar Cave

Tağlar Cave is an archaeological site in Böyük Tağlar, located on a mountain near Büzeyir village. The chamber contains visible layers of ancient occupation and artifacts spanning multiple prehistoric periods.

Systematic excavations beginning in the 1960s uncovered evidence of human settlement spanning tens of thousands of years. The investigations revealed tools and bones showing long-term occupation of the site across different prehistoric eras.

The cave contains 74 distinct archaeological layers, including artifacts from Medieval, Bronze Age, and Eneolithic periods, demonstrating continuous human settlement patterns.

The site lies in a remote mountain location requiring prior planning and local guidance to visit safely. Bring suitable clothing and footwear for steep terrain and variable weather conditions.

The site preserves remains from numerous animal species that inhabited the region in ancient times. This offers direct insight into what prey early hunters pursued and which creatures shared their landscape.
