Monument de l'Unité, National monument at Unity Palace entrance, Yaoundé, Cameroon
The monument is a large sculpture at the Unity Palace entrance featuring a central pillar reaching 13 meters tall. Ten golden lions rest on a circular beam and are surrounded by water fountains and color-changing lights.
The monument was unveiled in August 2021 after ten months of construction, creating a new landmark in Yaoundé. It was built as a symbol of togetherness during a period emphasizing national identity.
The ten lions positioned on the structure represent Cameroon's regions and embody the idea of national unity through their shared circular arrangement.
The site has a base diameter of about 12 meters and is best visited during daylight hours when the water fountains and lighting are most visible. Access is straightforward and the space works well for photos from different angles.
A rotating golden star sits at the center of the structure, symbolizing constant movement and change. The ground features star-shaped tiles with integrated water channels that unexpectedly tie the design together.
