Qomolangma National Park

The national park spans 78,000 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, containing five peaks above 8,000 meters, including Mount Everest at 8,849 meters.

The Chinese government established the Qomolangma National Nature Preserve in 1989, making it one of the first nature preserves managed entirely by local volunteers.

The Rongbuk Monastery within the park stands at 4,500 meters elevation and serves as a center for Tibetan Buddhist practices and festivals.

Visitors can reach the park through Shigatse, with the trek to Everest North Base Camp covering 70 kilometers from the town of Tingri.

The preserve contains over 2,000 plant species and houses rare wildlife including snow leopards, Himalayan tahrs, and bar-headed geese at extreme altitudes.
