Nangpai Gosum, Mountain summit in Solukhumbu, Nepal and China.
Nangpai Gosum is a 7350-meter summit in the Mahalangur Himal range along the Nepal-China border. The peak displays steep rock faces and glaciated slopes across its entire structure.
The first ascent took place in 1986 when four Japanese climbers reached the summit via a challenging route. This early success demonstrated that lesser-known peaks in the region were attainable.
The peak's alternative name, Pasang Lhamu Chuli, honors the first Nepalese woman to reach Mount Everest's summit before she died during descent.
Climbers must obtain permits from the Nepalese government, with fees varying by season. An ascent requires high-altitude mountaineering experience and equipment suited for glaciated terrain.
In 2009, Swiss climbers completed the first south wall ascent via a route called Hook or Crook. This technically demanding climb revealed the peak still offered fresh challenges for expeditions.
