Jakobsplan, Student housing complex in central Weimar, Germany
Jakobsplan is a student housing complex in central Weimar with around 350 residential spaces in different unit types. The buildings span multiple floors and form a cohesive residential area with shared common spaces.
The residential complex was completed in 1972 and designed by architect Anita Bach, who held a historic position in East German architecture. She became the first female professor of architecture in that region, breaking significant barriers in her field.
The complex is named after the nearby Jacob Church and serves as a gathering space for students from many countries. The residential area shapes the character of the city center and brings together different generations of people sharing daily life.
The rooms are furnished with kitchenettes, private bathrooms, and internet access for all residents. The facility offers laundry services and bicycle storage, making daily life more convenient.
From upper floors residents have views of the historic Gauforum and can see the Buchenwald memorial site. This dual perspective on Weimar's history makes living here spatially significant.
