Bab Ezzouar, suburb of the city of Algiers in northern Algeria
Bab Ezzouar is a municipality in Algiers that combines residential neighborhoods, office towers, and commercial centers across its sprawling area. The district features wide streets, apartment buildings, a major university campus, shopping malls, and parks that serve the daily needs of its residents and workers.
The area was known as Return from Hunting during French colonial times and contained two small villages. It became a town in 1984, and since 2001 the government built many large residential buildings to accommodate growing population numbers.
The name Bab Ezzouar comes from Arabic, meaning the Gate of Splendor. Today the neighborhood mixes university life, office work, and residential communities that share the same streets and public spaces.
The neighborhood is accessible via the N11 highway from Algiers city center and by tram with stops at several locations. Visitors can easily find parking, cafes, restaurants, and a large shopping mall with many stores in the central areas.
The Oriental Business Park was built by a Chinese company and combines office spaces with a sports complex, hotel, and gardens in one project. This blend of work and leisure facilities is distinctive and creates a rare gathering place within the business district.
