Tassili Cultural Park

The national park contains sandstone mountains, deep canyons, and rock formations spread across 72,000 square kilometers in southeastern Algeria.

The site received protected status in 1972 and contains thousands of prehistoric rock drawings dating back to 12,000 years depicting early human life.

Rock art sites throughout the park display human figures, animals, and geometric patterns, documenting the evolution of societies in North Africa.

Visitors require permits and must join guided tours from Djanet, with October-November and February-March offering suitable weather conditions for exploration.

The park houses endangered Saharan cheetahs and Barbary sheep among its rock formations, demonstrating natural adaptation to extreme desert conditions.
