Illizi Province

The territory spans 285,000 square kilometers of desert landscape, containing the Tassili n'Ajjer mountains and numerous archaeological discoveries across its vast expanse.

The province emerged from Ouargla Province in 1984, developing into a key administrative region with strategic importance for Algeria's natural resources and border control.

The population of 52,333 inhabitants maintains traditional practices through generations, incorporating elements from both Berber and Arab heritage in their daily customs.

Two main districts, Illizi and In Amenas, structure the province, with the capital city Illizi serving as the central point for government services and commercial activities.

The region contains the Ain Tsila gas field, a major natural gas production site partially managed by international companies and the national corporation Sonatrach.
