Madama

Madama is a military airfield in the Djado region with a laterite runway and accommodation for stationed personnel. The facility encompasses a base, the airfield, and support structures necessary for operations in this remote location.

French colonial authorities built Fort Madama in 1931 as a control point between Niger and Libya territories. The site evolved from a colonial outpost into a modern military airfield.

The runway was reinforced in 2014 and afterward handled A400M transport aircraft during their first operational mission to Niger. This upgrade helped supply remote regions by air.
