Aswan Museum

The Aswan Museum is located on Elephantine Island and displays finds from ancient Egypt and Nubia. The rooms contain weapons, pottery, statues, and other artifacts arranged in glass cases that cover different historical periods.

The museum was founded in 1912 in a former villa with roots in Britain's colonial period in Egypt. Archaeologists from Germany conducted excavations between 1969 and 1997, continuously adding new discoveries to the collection.

The collection shows objects that reflect life along the Nile, including tools, jewelry, and household items from different periods. You can see how people used everyday things and what crafts were common in this region.

The building is well organized with labels in English and Arabic, making it easy to understand the exhibits. It helps to plan your route through the rooms before visiting to make the best use of your time.

The collection includes mummies of sacred rams dedicated to the god Khnum, offering a rare glimpse into religious practices. These special finds are not seen in many other museums and show the spiritual importance that animals held in this culture.
