El-Tabia Mosque

El-Tabia Mosque is a prayer site in central Aswan with four entrances leading to a large canopy supported by round columns with pointed arches. Glass lanterns displaying Quranic verses hang overhead and illuminate the prayer area beneath.

The mosque was built in 1974 and blends modern construction with Mamluk architectural elements such as a central dome and two minarets. This combination of old and new defines the building's style.

The prayer hall displays traditional Islamic artistry through geometric patterns and calligraphy across its walls. These decorations shape the visual experience inside and create a focused setting for worship.

The site accommodates thousands of worshippers and serves annually as an observation point for sighting the Ramadan crescent moon in Aswan. Visitors should note that this is an active prayer space and respect the times set aside for worship.

The mosque's gardens contain native Egyptian plants, creating a natural setting against the river behind it. This green space forms a quiet contrast to the busy city surrounding it.
