TT3, Ancient tomb in Deir el-Medina, Egypt.
Description
TT3 is a tomb in Deir el-Medina on the west bank of the Nile opposite modern-day Luxor. The burial chamber features detailed wall paintings depicting Osiris seated on a throne while Pashedu kneels in prayer.
History
The tomb was built during the New Kingdom between 1550 and 1069 BCE as the final resting place for Pashedu, a servant in the Place of Truth. This period saw the development of the workers' settlement where skilled artisans were housed.
Culture
The wall paintings depict gods holding ankh symbols and the Wadjet eye, reflecting religious beliefs practiced by workers in Deir el-Medina. These images reveal what the people who lived here valued in their spiritual life.
Practical
Visiting is best done early in the morning when temperatures are cooler and crowds are smaller. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as the site is exposed with little shade available.
Did you know?
Pashedu owned two tombs, with TT3 being the better known while TT326 receives less attention. Having multiple burial sites was not unusual for more prosperous workers in the settlement.
