TT2, Ancient burial tomb in Deir el-Medina, Egypt.

TT2 is a tomb in Deir el-Medina featuring a large courtyard with two chapels behind it, where the southern chapel displays painted walls and life-size statues of Khabekhnet and his wife. The burial chamber contains monochrome decorations with yellow figures outlined in black or red against white backgrounds, illustrating religious scenes from ancient belief systems.

This tomb was constructed during Ramesses II's reign in the 19th Dynasty, when Khabekhnet, a Servant in the Place of Truth, expanded two earlier tombs from the 18th Dynasty. Following its use as a family burial site, it was later repurposed as a double hermitage by Coptic monks during the Christian era.

The numbering system reflects how this site was catalogued among worker burials in the valley, making it one of the most documented examples from its era. Visitors can observe how the decorations tell stories about religious beliefs and death rituals that shaped daily life in this ancient community.

This site is located in Deir el-Medina on the west bank of Luxor, where several tombs can be visited in close proximity to one another. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection, as the location sits in an open valley with minimal shade.

Excavations by Jacques Lecomte-Dunouy in 1917 and later research by Bernard Bruyère in the 1920s uncovered fragments of burial equipment and mummification materials that reveal how burials were prepared. These discoveries provide clues about the practical methods ancient people used to honor and protect their deceased for the afterlife.
