TT138, Ancient tomb in Sheikh Abd el-Qurna, Theban Necropolis, Egypt.
TT138 is a decorated tomb located in the Sheikh Abd el-Qurna section of the Theban Necropolis near Luxor. Its interior features wall paintings showing scenes from the Book of Gates and funeral processions, along with hieroglyphic inscriptions.
The tomb belonged to Nedjemger, who served as Overseer of the Ramesseum gardens during the reign of Ramesses II in the 19th Dynasty. This period marked one of ancient Egypt's most powerful eras.
The walls display religious scenes showing the reverence of the deceased and his wife toward the gods. These depictions provide insight into the beliefs and rituals that mattered to ancient Egyptians.
The tomb has a straightforward layout with two main rooms that are easy to navigate, with wall decorations clearly visible throughout. Visitors should bring a flashlight or arrive early when sunlight best illuminates the painted walls.
A distinctive detail is the garden scenes depicting a shaduf, an ancient water-lifting device that is rarely shown in tomb paintings. This depiction offers a window into daily life and agricultural practices of the era.
