TT280, Ancient tomb in Sheikh Abd el-Qurna necropolis, Egypt

TT280 is an ancient tomb carved into the limestone cliffs of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna necropolis, featuring multiple chambers with decorated surfaces. The burial chambers contain painted walls showing scenes from daily life in ancient Egypt.

The tomb was constructed during Egypt's Middle Kingdom as a burial place for a high-ranking official or person of importance. Archaeologists first opened it in the 1890s and discovered a cache of wooden models and objects typical of burials from this era.

The tomb's decorative elements depict agricultural scenes, boat journeys, and domestic activities that reflect the social structure of Middle Kingdom Egypt.

The tomb sits within the necropolis on the west bank of the Nile across from Luxor and can be reached on foot through the valley. Navigation is easiest with a local guide familiar with the different tomb sites and pathways through the area.

The wooden models discovered in this burial show miniature versions of boats, kitchens, and workshops that were dispersed to museums around the world. These objects reveal unexpected details about the craftsmanship and everyday techniques of ancient Egyptians.
