Sohag, Regional capital on the Nile in Egypt

The city spreads along the western bank of the Nile River, comprising two distinct islands and agricultural plains at an elevation of 67 meters.

The settlement evolved from an ancient village called Suhay, located on the foundations of earlier communities including Bompae, Tmupaie, and Bay settlements.

The El-Farshuti Mosque displays architectural elements from the Mamluk period, with inscriptions from various sultans decorating its walls and prominent minaret.

Sohag International Airport connects the region to major cities, while the local university serves over 40,000 students through ten different colleges.

Archaeological excavations in 2019 revealed a Ptolemaic-era tomb containing a nobleman named Toutou, complete with limestone sarcophagi and preserved mummified animals.
