Mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, Ancient mortuary temple in Luxor Governorate, Egypt
The limestone temple rises in three distinct terraces against desert cliffs, featuring colonnades, courtyards, and sanctuaries dedicated to various Egyptian deities.
Queen Hatshepsut commissioned this temple between 1479 and 1458 BCE, establishing it as both a religious center and a monument to her exceptional reign.
The temple walls display carved reliefs depicting important ceremonies, military campaigns, and the expedition to the Land of Punt during Hatshepsut's time.
The temple opens daily from sunrise to sunset, with entrance fees covering access to all three levels connected by ramps and stairs.
Following Hatshepsut's death, Thutmose III attempted to remove all references to her rule by defacing her images and inscriptions throughout the temple.
