KV33, Ancient tomb in Valley of the Kings, Egypt
KV33 is an ancient tomb in the Valley of the Kings featuring a stone sarcophagus and several smaller chambers. The structure has a staircase leading to a central area containing numerous archaeological remains.
French archaeologist Victor Loret discovered this tomb in 1898 and opened new paths in exploring ancient Egyptian burial sites. The discovery contributed significantly to understanding burial architecture in this region.
The walls show early religious artwork with Egyptian deities depicted in simple forms on yellow backgrounds. These images offer insight into the spiritual world of the people who built this tomb.
The entrance requires descending several stone-carved steps to reach the main chamber. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be aware of narrow passages, as the interior is dark and cool.
Excavations by the University of Basel uncovered numerous pottery fragments and alabaster containers buried under thick layers of accumulated sediment. These finds expand our understanding of burial practices and daily life in this period.
