Benban Solar Park, Photovoltaic power station in Benban, Aswan Governorate, Egypt
Benban Solar Park spans 37 square kilometers of desert terrain and contains 41 separate solar power plants connected to the national electricity grid.
The Egyptian government initiated the solar park project in September 2014 as a component of the country's Sustainable Energy Strategy 2035 program.
The power station represents Egypt's transition toward renewable energy independence, supporting local employment and regional economic development.
The facility generates 1.8 gigawatts of electricity through photovoltaic panels, delivering power to more than one million Egyptian households.
NASA provided assistance in determining the optimal location for the solar park, which receives exceptionally high sunshine levels throughout the year.
