Tel Yarmuth, Archaeological site in Jerusalem District, Israel
The archaeological complex spans 18 hectares with a high eastern point of 1.8 hectares and extends westward across dimensions of 640 by 420 meters.
Archaeological excavations at Tel Yarmuth began in 1970, revealing structures from the Early Bronze Age period, including two palaces and stone fortification walls.
Scientists discovered a monumental structure known as the White Building, which functioned as a temple with a side altar during the Early Bronze Age.
Tel Yarmuth sits at 490 meters above sea level, approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Jerusalem, near the modern city of Beit Shemesh.
Carbon dating of materials from Tel Yarmuth provided essential data for establishing the chronology of the Early Bronze Age, indicating its conclusion around 2500 BCE.
