Masua Scenic Lookout, Fire lookout tower in Britannia Park, Israel
Masua Scenic Lookout is a fire observation tower situated in Britannia Park at an elevation of 364 meters above sea level. The structure rises about 8 meters high and offers wide views across the forested and hilly terrain of the Mateh Yehuda region.
The tower was built in 1957 as a critical tool for early detection of forest fires in the region. Its construction marked the beginning of organized fire monitoring efforts in this part of Israel.
The tower represents Israel's commitment to forest preservation, serving as both a functional fire detection point and an educational center for environmental awareness.
The location is accessible through marked trails in the park with straightforward routes leading up to the tower. Visiting during cooler months makes the walk more comfortable and the views particularly clear.
The tower is equipped with an Osborne Fire Finder, a mechanical device that allows operators to calculate the exact distance and direction to potential fires using geometry and sight lines. This analog technology remains in place and demonstrates how fire detection worked long before digital systems became common.
