Chirala mandal

Chirala mandal is an administrative region in Bapatla district situated along the Bay of Bengal shore. It contains multiple towns and villages spread across the flat coastal terrain.

The region was central to the 1921 Chirala Perala Movement, when residents staged a protest against colonial taxation. People left the town boundaries for an extended period as a form of resistance.

Fishing remains central to how people live and work here, with families continuing practices learned from their ancestors. The coastal setting shapes daily routines and local traditions.

The area connects to surrounding regions via National Highway 216 and a railway station that links to the broader network. Getting around to different settlements is relatively straightforward.

The land sits nearly at sea level and receives rainfall from two different monsoon patterns throughout the year. This makes it one of the lowest-lying inhabited areas in the region.
