Nalanda International Cricket Stadium, Cricket Stadium in Rajgir, India
Nalanda International Cricket Stadium is a modern sports venue in Nalanda district, Bihar, designed to host national and international cricket matches. It seats approximately 45,000 spectators with views from every angle, and features gyms, physiotherapy rooms, medical facilities, and five-storey pavilions containing broadcaster offices and player recovery areas.
Plans for the stadium began in late 2018 when the local government announced the project, with the foundation stone laid by Bihar's Chief Minister in October 2018. The design drew inspiration from international venues like Sydney Cricket Ground, aiming to establish Bihar as a significant center for sports.
The stadium is named Nalanda after the ancient university in the region, linking modern sports culture to the area's historical legacy. It serves as a gathering place for sports enthusiasts and creates a sense of shared purpose, helping to build a sports-centered community identity.
The venue has 13 pitches with different soil types to support both fast bowlers and spinners, plus an advanced drainage system that quickly removes rainwater to prevent match cancellations. Visitors will find the grounds well-organized with clear pathways, though large events can draw substantial crowds, so arriving early is helpful for securing good viewing spots.
The stadium features 13 pitches prepared with soil from two different regions: seven pitches use black soil from Mokama while six use red soil from Maharashtra, allowing the ground to suit both fast bowlers and spinners. This careful soil selection across the venue is unusual and shows how seriously the facilities approach player needs.
