Ise

Ise spans across 208 square kilometers on the Shima Peninsula, featuring both flat coastal areas along Ise Bay and mountainous terrain reaching 500 meters elevation.

The settlements around Ise Grand Shrine merged to form Ujiyamada town during the Edo period, later becoming Ise City in 1955 after incorporating neighboring villages.

The Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu holds the primary position in Shinto practices as it enshrines Amaterasu, the sun goddess and imperial ancestor.

Regular train services connect Ise to major cities, with direct routes from Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya arriving at Iseshi and Ujiyamada stations.

The entire shrine complex undergoes complete reconstruction every 20 years, maintaining ancient building techniques and preserving traditional craftsmanship.
