Koyasu Shrine, Shinto shrine in Japan
Koyasu Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Ise built in the traditional Shinmei-zukuri style with simple wooden structures and clean lines. Behind the main building sits a rock cave that forms part of the sacred grounds, surrounded by trees and bushes.
The shrine was founded to honor a local deity from the Ujitachicho area and has remained meaningful to families for many generations. The Shinmei-zukuri architecture reflects design traditions that have been maintained over many centuries.
The name Koyasu refers to the goddess Konohanasakuya Hime no Mikoto, associated with safe childbirth and family protection. You can observe how families come here to pray and leave small offerings, showing how meaningful this place remains for the local community today.
The shrine is accessible by bus from Ujiyamada or Ise City Station in about 20 minutes, and from Isuzugawa Station it takes around 6 minutes. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon when it is quieter and the light is softer.
A natural rock cave lies behind the main building and is considered an important local feature that adds a layer of mystery and age to the site. This cave connects visitors to both the land and the countless people who have visited this place across generations.
