サンメドウズ清里スキー場, Ski resort in Hokuto, Japan
Sunmeadows Kiyosato is a ski resort in Hokuto, set on the slopes of the Yatsugatake mountains in Yamanashi Prefecture. It offers runs for beginners and experienced skiers, with on-site equipment rental and several dining spots.
The Kiyosato area began attracting visitors in the 1930s when a pastoral development project brought new roads and facilities to the highlands. Winter sports grew alongside this broader tourism movement, and the ski resort took shape as demand for mountain recreation increased.
The resort sits near Kiyosato village, a place known in Japan for its pastoral feel that draws visitors in every season. Inside the lodge areas, Japanese food is served alongside simpler Western options, giving mealtimes a local flavor.
The resort is most easily reached by car, and parking is available directly on-site. Temperatures on the slopes can drop noticeably compared to the valley, so layering up before arriving makes the day more comfortable.
On clear days, the slopes offer a direct view of Mount Fuji, which sits far to the south and appears in full outline against the sky. This view can be seen from the runs themselves, and many visitors notice it only once they are already on the snow.
