Kōshō-ji, Buddhist temple in Miyagino-ku, Sendai, Japan
The temple grounds contain a five-story pagoda, entrance gate, temple building, gravel courtyard, and cemetery within an urban environment near Sendai Station.
Founded in 1295 as Daisen-ji by Nichiren disciples, the temple was renamed by Date Masamune and underwent multiple reconstructions, with the current pagoda built in 2003.
The temple holds significant Buddhist artifacts and maintains a monument dedicated to Mizawa Hatsuko, wife of the third Date clan lord Tsunamura.
Located at 4-11-11 Tsutsujigaoka, visitors can reach the temple by walking east from Sendai Station through the Shintera district's temple-lined streets.
The temple housed 100 monks during its peak period and retained three smaller affiliated temples that continue operating in the present day.
