岡本梅林公園, Plum blossom park in Higashinada district, Kobe, Japan.
Okamoto Plum Grove is a park in Kobe planted with around 200 plum trees in 40 different varieties, showing both red and white flowers. The trees grow across several elevation levels, creating varied views as you walk through the grounds.
The park was severely damaged by flooding in 1938 and by bombing during World War II, with many original trees lost in these events. After these disasters, the park was reconstructed and replanted with new plum trees to restore its purpose.
The park serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors enjoy the arrival of spring together, walking beneath flowering trees and sharing in the seasonal celebration. People come here to appreciate the delicate scents and colors that mark the changing year.
The park sits about 10 minutes on foot from Hankyu Okamoto Station, making it easy to reach by foot. Gates at the entrances are designed to keep wild boars out, so visitors can walk the paths without concern.
From various spots throughout the park, you can look out over Osaka Bay, Rokko Island, and the Kobe skyline stretching below. These vistas reward walkers who explore beyond the plum trees themselves.
