Fuchu Driver's License Center
Fuchu Driver's License Center is a driver's license examination office in Fuchū, west of Tokyo. The facility provides written tests, practical driving exams, and a dedicated practice course with markings and road signs where applicants can train with an instructor before taking the actual test.
The center was established as one of three main driver examination facilities in Tokyo to train and test prospective drivers. Japan's standardized driving tests were designed to enforce high safety standards on roads and ensure all drivers meet the same skill requirements.
It is best to arrive early between 7:40 and 7:50 in the morning to avoid long lines and ensure you have enough time for all required steps. Bring your residence card or other identification, provisional license, and a recent photo, and do not forget your glasses or contact lenses if needed.
For applicants from countries with bilateral agreements with Japan, the process can be simplified and may require only a vision test instead of a full practical exam. However, drivers from countries without such agreements must take the complete examination, which is similar to the strict Japanese standard training that all domestic drivers undergo.
