Ebisujima, Islet in Suzaki, Japan
Ebisujima is a small islet at the tip of the Suzaki peninsula on the Izu Peninsula in Japan. A short bridge connects it to the mainland, and a walking path circles the entire island so visitors can explore it on foot.
The islet has been part of local fishing life for generations, used by fishermen who prayed for good catches and safe voyages. It later became part of the Izu Peninsula Geopark, which helped draw attention to its volcanic rock formations.
The islet is reachable on foot via a short bridge, so no boat is needed. The path around the island is easy to walk, though sturdy footwear is a good idea since some sections pass over rocky ground.
The rock layers of Ebisujima show clearly visible stripes formed by volcanic ash, making the ground itself a record of the region's geological past. The clear water surrounding the islet also makes it a known spot for snorkeling.
