Enoshima Aquarium, Public aquarium in Katasekaigan, Japan

Enoshima Aquarium is a large public aquarium in Katasekaigan along Katase Beach, displaying over 26,000 marine animals from more than 540 species sourced from regional and international waters. The complex covers 14,000 square meters (about 151,000 square feet) and connects exhibition areas with outdoor pools directly beside the ocean.

The facility began in 1952 as Marineland, founded by Nikkatsu president Hisasaku Hori. In April 2004, the complex reopened after thorough renovation as a modern aquarium.

The name combines nearby Enoshima island with the Japanese tradition of aquariums that join education and nature observation. Visitors today watch dolphin presentations in the open-air pool, while Mount Fuji appears in the background on clear days.

Entry costs 2,800 yen for adults and 1,300 yen for children between six and twelve years old, with free admission for children under three. The facility sits directly beside the beach and is reachable on foot from Katase-Enoshima station.

The Sagami Bay Tank recreates the underwater environment of the local marine surroundings and displays the variety of species living in the waters around Enoshima. Visitors can observe fish species that actually inhabit the nearby sea.
