Tsujidō Beach, Pacific beach in Fujisawa, Japan
Tsujidō Beach is a sandy shore along the Pacific coast in Kanagawa where ocean waves meet the coastline near residential neighborhoods. It has designated zones for swimming and surfing, with changing rooms, showers, and food vendors positioned along the waterfront.
The area served as a military training ground for both the Imperial Japanese Navy and US forces after World War II until it returned to public use in 1959. This military chapter ended when the land was released back to civilian purposes.
The Showa Street toward Tsujidō Station displays numerous surf shops that reflect how surfing shapes the local identity. This commercial area shows the daily presence of the surfing community in everyday local life.
The beach is most easily reached from Tsujidō Station, which connects by pathways to the waterfront. Visiting during off-peak seasons offers calmer conditions and more space to enjoy the shore.
Near the beach stands the Shonan Cooking Center, housing thirteen traditional oden restaurants that were relocated from Enoshima. These establishments preserve authentic local culinary customs that reflect the region's past.
