Mori Castle

Mori Castle stands on a strategic mountain position at 175 meters altitude, offering a commanding view over the surrounding valleys and waterways.

The castle foundation dates to 1185 when Kii Michisuke, serving under Taira no Tomomori, established the fortification during the Dan-no-ura Battle period.

The fortress represents the architectural style of medieval Japanese mountain castles, incorporating natural defensive features within its structural design.

The remaining stone walls of the castle grounds provide visitors with an opportunity to examine traditional Japanese fortification techniques and construction methods.

The castle structure witnessed the passage of notable samurai, including Miyamoto Musashi who sought refuge within its walls in 1612.
