Akasaka Twin Tower, Mixed-use skyscraper complex in Akasaka district, Tokyo, Japan.
Akasaka Twin Tower is an office and commercial complex in the Akasaka district of Tokyo, made up of two connected high-rise buildings. The towers share a common base that contains shops, restaurants, and other facilities open to the public.
An older building on this site was torn down in 2014 to make way for the current development. The project was part of a broader push to modernize the Akasaka area ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The name Akasaka comes from Akane-zaka, meaning "red slope," named after a plant that once grew on the hillside there. The area around the towers is known for its restaurants and nightlife, drawing office workers and visitors who mix freely in the streets below.
The complex sits very close to Akasaka subway station, making it easy to reach from most parts of the city. The ground-level areas with shops and restaurants are open to anyone and require no prior planning to visit.
The two towers are positioned to create an open passage between them that channels wind and provides natural ventilation at street level during summer. This effect was deliberately worked into the building design rather than being an accident of placement.
