Gotemba Premium Outlets, Outlet mall in Gotemba, Japan.
Gotemba Premium Outlets is a shopping center east of Tokyo near Mount Fuji, with 290 stores spread across open-air levels. The complex sits on low buildings connected by walkways and small plazas.
The center opened in July 2000, introducing the large-scale discount retail model to Japan. Over the years, additional sections and facilities were added to attract more visitors.
The layout follows walking paths that frame views of the mountain, so visitors move between stores and restaurants while pausing to look at the landscape. Many travelers combine shopping with a stopover on the way to the national park or as a break after hiking nearby.
Shuttle buses run regularly from Gotemba Station and bring visitors straight to the entrance. Weekends and holidays tend to be busier, so visiting on weekdays gives more room to move around.
A Ferris wheel stands at the edge of the site and offers views over the grounds and surrounding hills. Visitors looking for a break can relax in the hot spring bath located inside the complex.
